Belfast stabbing suspect held as police warn against unrest

What's new: Police said the Sudanese suspect had leave to remain after arriving in Northern Ireland from Dublin.

Police in Northern Ireland arrested a 30-year-old Sudanese man on suspicion of attempted murder after a knife attack in north Belfast left a man in his 40s with serious injuries. The attack happened late June 8 on Kinnaird Avenue. Police said the victim suffered major wounds to his face, back and eyes, and officers recovered what they believe was a kitchen knife. Video shared online showed bystanders stepping in before officers arrived, and Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson praised their intervention. Police said the case is not currently being treated as terrorism. Henderson also urged calm after social media posts called for protests, warning against a repeat of earlier anti-immigrant disorder in Northern Ireland.
