Bekasi government urges teachers, parents to guide children online

Bekasi highlights cyberbullying, pornography, gadget addiction and child sexual exploitation as digital risks.

The Bekasi Regency Government has urged teachers and parents to play a more active role in guiding children as they use the internet through an education event in Cikarang on Friday. Acting head of the Bekasi Regency Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Office Akam Muharam said the digital space has become children's second environment after family and school, but it also carries serious threats. The risks highlighted include cyberbullying, exposure to pornography and violence, gadget addiction, and child sexual exploitation through digital media. Bekasi said protecting children in digital spaces must involve the government, family, schools and the wider community. The region also backs age limits for social media use, protection of children's personal data, and safeguarding children's digital traces and profiles. Parents are asked to apply digital parenting and limit gadget use wisely.
