BEI sees Islamic stocks as more resilient in weak market
BEI pointed to no margin calls and limited exposure to conventional banks as factors cushioning Islamic stocks.
BEI President Director Jeffrey Hendrik said Islamic stocks tend to be more resilient when Indonesia's stock market comes under pressure in 2026. He cited two main factors: Islamic indexes do not include conventional banking stocks, one of the most pressured sectors this year, and Islamic investors trade without interest-based facilities such as margin financing, avoiding the risk of margin calls or forced selling. Amid market weakness, Otoritas Jasa Keuangan reported that the market capitalization of the Indeks Saham Syariah Indonesia reached Rp5.658,68 triliun in August 2026. In the same period, the market capitalization of Jakarta Islamic Index stood at Rp1.891,89 triliun and JII70 at Rp2.681,94 triliun. Otoritas Jasa Keuangan also recorded 622 stocks on the Daftar Efek Syariah, plus three stocks through an incidental determination.
