Basarnas ends monitoring of KMP Mutiara Sentosa II fire

Basarnas stopped active monitoring of the KMP Mutiara Sentosa II fire incident in waters north of Madura Island, East Java, after four days of follow-up sweeps found no sign of the vessel or any additional victims. Nanang Sigit PH, head of the Surabaya Class A SAR Office, said the decision was made on the seventh day after the fire. Earlier, the SAR operation had been shifted to monitoring on 5 August. During this phase, Basarnas deployed KN SAR 249 Permadi, RIB Pos SAR Sumenep and AW139 HR1301 helicopter to search the sea and air area. Manifest data synchronized between the harbor authority and the ship operator set the total number of people on board at 238, with 233 survivors and five dead. After monitoring ended, personnel returned to standby status for other emergencies.
