Police upgraded the case after lab tests and questioning 12 witnesses found the product’s contents did not match its label.

Bareskrim Polri seized 2,236 packs of fortified rice from PT UDS in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, after laboratory tests showed the quality and nutritional content did not match the label on the packaging. The four brands examined were Penari Bangkok, Golden Number 111 blue, Golden Number 111 red, and Ikan Mas Cupang. The Direktorat Tindak Pidana Ekonomi Khusus also questioned 12 witnesses, including representatives of Badan Pangan Nasional, the president director of PT UDS, and the production chief. Police said they had found at least two pieces of evidence, allowing the case status to be raised from investigation to inquiry. In addition to rice valued at around Rp280 juta, investigators seized one rice milling machine line and two fortified rice machines. The case is being handled under Pasal 62 ayat (1) juncto Pasal 8 ayat (1) of the Consumer Protection Law.
