Bareskrim Polri is handling five human trafficking cases involving a mail-order bride scheme that ensnared Indonesian women to be married to Chinese citizens. In one case, investigators arrested two suspects, CA (25) as a recruiter and FU (59) as an interpreter and liaison with the victim’s prospective husband. The case surfaced from a report by a victim identified as ULS in January 2025, with incidents spanning 2024-2025 in Indonesia and Guangzhou. The victim was promised Rp25 juta after marriage and Rp10 juta per month, but the monthly payment was never received. In China, the victim was reportedly physically abused and forced to handle household work in a home occupied by more than 10 people. Police seized eight passports, eight KTP, four mobile phones, three ATM cards, two bank books, and a fake marriage notebook.
