Bapanas prepares food stocks for dry season as Bulog rice hits 5.2 million tons
Feed corn stock remains at 188,000 tons, while chili, shallots, eggs and chicken are projected to stay in surplus all year.
The National Food Agency said strategic staple food stocks are being prepared for the dry season and the potential impact of El Nino, with the government rice reserve at Perum Bulog reaching 5.2 million tons as of July 8. Bapanas head, who also serves as Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman, said the government learned from the 2023 experience and is securing supplies well in advance. At the regional level, provincial government food reserves stood at 7.34 thousand tons through the end of June, while regency and city reserves reached 13.15 thousand tons in 323 regions. In addition to rice, feed corn stock remained at 188,000 tons. Bulog and ID Food also held 1.1 thousand kiloliters of cooking oil, 2.79 thousand tons of sugar and 38 tons of chicken meat. Bapanas projected that chili, shallots, broiler eggs and broiler chicken will remain in surplus versus consumption needs this year.
