Bandung council urges corporate charges over 10-tree felling

The push extends liability to padel business beneficiaries, not just field workers, and opens the door to a civil suit.

Chairman of Commission I of the Bandung City DPRD, Radea Respati Paramudhita, is urging the Bandung city government to pursue criminal and civil action in the case of the felling of 10 large trees in front of a padel court on Jalan LLRE Martadinata or Jalan Riau. He said the logging, which occurred starting on 29 Juni 2026, is hard to view as the spontaneous act of an individual because it required structure, equipment and supporting vehicles. Radea suspects a link to construction of the padel facility at the site. He said enforcement should not stop with field workers, but must target the beneficial owners of the business entity, including if it is structured as a PT or CV. He also called for corporate criminal liability and a claim for damages to restore the environment. Earlier, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan had escalated the case from a minor violation to a major violation.
