Balogun says World Cup ban reversal rattled US teammates

What's new: his remarks came as FairSquare filed an IOC complaint over FIFA's handling of the suspension after Trump's intervention.

U.S. striker Folarin Balogun said the late reversal of his World Cup suspension created nerves inside the American squad before its round-of-16 loss to Belgium. Balogun, who was sent off against Bosnia and Herzegovina, became eligible a day before the match when FIFA suspended his one-game ban for a year. He told CBS that he expected controversy and that the outside noise was hard to ignore, even as players tried to focus on the game. The dispute widened Tuesday when FairSquare filed a complaint with the International Olympic Committee alleging FIFA president Gianni Infantino breached political-neutrality rules after President Donald Trump acknowledged intervening in the case.
