Bahlil prepares 3 steps to raise oil output, cut imports
The government is preparing exploration tenders for about 120 prospective wells and plans to reactivate thousands of idle wells.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia is preparing three steps to raise domestic oil lifting and reduce reliance on imports. The measures include deploying technology at existing fields, bringing idle wells back online, and speeding exploration of new blocks. In Jakarta on Thursday, Bahlil said Indonesia's oil demand is now about 1.5 million-1.6 million barrels per day, while 2025 production is only 605,000-610,000 barrels per day. The gap means Indonesia still imports around 1 million to 1.1 million barrels per day. He said the government has prepared exploration tenders for about 120 prospective wells, while thousands of idle wells are still seen as having hydrocarbon potential that can be reactivated.
