Baby formula recall follows 3 infant botulism cases in 3 states
What’s new: The FDA said the product sold at Target and on Nara.com accounts for less than 1% of US formula sales, easing shortage fears.
Nara Organics has recalled its Whole Milk Organic Powdered infant formula across the United States after three babies fell ill in a multistate botulism outbreak, federal health officials said. The infants, ages 2 to 5 months, became sick in April and May in California, Pennsylvania and Washington after consuming the formula, according to the Food and Drug Administration. All three were hospitalized and treated with BabyBIG, the approved therapy for infant botulism. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged parents to stop using the formula immediately, document lot numbers and use-by dates on opened cans, and monitor infants for symptoms such as constipation, poor feeding, drooping eyelids and breathing trouble.
