The proposed free tuition plan at state universities could require an extra Rp93 trillion a year as MBG expands to 57 million recipients.

Entering the second year of President Prabowo Subianto's administration, government supporters highlighted 2025 economic growth of 5.11 percent, poverty at 8.25 percent, a Gini ratio of 0.363, and open unemployment at 4.85 percent as signs that the policy base is taking shape. Bambang Soesatyo of Wantimpres said the period is steering the country toward stronger food, energy, nutrition, education, health, village, defense, and national industry sectors. In the House of Representatives, Soedeson Tandra said legislation in the Prabowo era has advanced with the new KUHAP, the Labor Protection Law, and the Domestic Workers Protection Law. Fiscal pressure, however, is also emerging. Channel News Asia reported that the proposed elimination of tuition fees at public universities could cost Rp93 trillion a year, while the Makan Bergizi Gratis program keeps expanding and has reached more than 57 million recipients.
