Forest fire haze makes Palembang air very unhealthy
New: BMKG detected smoke spreading to Sumsel, Kalbar, Kalteng, and Kalsel on Thursday morning in Himawari-9 imagery.
Haze from forest and land fires blanketed Palembang, Sumatera Selatan, on Thursday (13/8) and pushed air quality into the very unhealthy category in the morning. Smoke was seen in several spots, including the Sungai Ogan area, Jembatan Ampera, and Pelabuhan 16 Ilir. BMKG monitoring of Himawari-9 satellite imagery at 10.00 WIB showed the smoke spread was not limited to Sumatera Selatan, but was also detected in Kalimantan Barat, Kalimantan Tengah, and Kalimantan Selatan. In Riau, Pekanbaru's air quality also fell to the unhealthy category based on PM2,5 levels as a mix of pollutants and smoke has moved in over the past few days.
