U.S. marks Indonesia's 81st independence day, highlights trade and Indo-Pacific

Washington also flagged new openings in critical minerals, maritime security and the digital economy, and offered condolences after the NTT quake.

The United States government congratulated Indonesia on its 81st independence day while underscoring the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership. In a message posted by the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said bilateral ties rest on a commitment to democratic governance and a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. He highlighted ongoing cooperation in defense, regional security, trade, energy and technology. Washington also pointed to new opportunities in critical minerals, maritime security and the digital economy. In the same message, Rubio expressed condolences to the victims of the earthquake in Nusa Tenggara Timur.
