Arsenal rout Manchester City 3-0 to win Community Shield

Riccardo Calafiori scored after 24 seconds, one of the fastest goals in the competition’s history.

Arsenal opened the season by winning the Community Shield after beating Manchester City 3-0 at Principality Stadium, Cardiff, on Sunday. Riccardo Calafiori put Arsenal ahead just 24 seconds after kickoff. Kai Havertz then doubled the lead before halftime, and captain Martin Odegaard added the third goal in the 48th minute. BBC and The Guardian both noted Arsenal’s dominance over City throughout the match. The result gave Arsenal their first trophy of the season and a poor start for Manchester City in their first major match of the campaign in the official competition. Mikel Arteta praised his team’s intensity, while City failed to take chances from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.
