Army Secretary Dan Driscoll resigned after months of friction with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over personnel and leadership decisions, according to U.S. officials cited by multiple outlets. President Donald Trump accepted the resignation Monday, ABC News reported, while the White House praised Driscoll’s work on readiness and military operations. His exit follows Hegseth’s earlier removal of Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George, a close Driscoll ally. The departure leaves the Army without Senate-confirmed leadership at a time of continuing conflict with Iran. Driscoll, 38, took office in 2025 as the youngest Army secretary and had also drawn notice for helping lead Ukraine-Russia peace efforts.
