Arizona Democrats remain locked in tight primary for key House seat

Arizona Democrats were still counting votes early Wednesday in a close primary in the state’s 1st Congressional District, with Marlene Galán-Woods and Amish Shah short of the threshold needed to secure the nomination outright. The winner will advance to face former NFL kicker Jay Feely, who won the Republican primary after receiving Donald Trump’s endorsement. The Phoenix-area seat is one of the party’s top pickup opportunities in November after Republican David Schweikert chose not to seek reelection and instead run for governor. Schweikert had narrowly held the district in the past two election cycles, including a 51.9% to 48.1% win over Shah in 2024.
