Apple replaces faulty iPhone Duo units after foldable screen failures
What's new: Apple said affected phones qualify for AppleCare replacements, while out-of-warranty inner-screen repairs cost $999.
Apple is replacing some iPhone Duo handsets after early buyers reported broken inner displays on the company’s first foldable phone, which went on sale Friday. Users posted photos showing bright horizontal lines near the hinge and, in some cases, cracks along the center crease after opening the device. Apple said the problem affects a small number of units and directed customers to AppleCare for replacements. The issue surfaced days after the $1,999 phone’s debut, as Apple prepares to expand sales to 28 more markets on Oct. 30. iFixit said the failures may be tied to the hinge, where a manufacturing variance or debris could damage the display panel.
