Appeals court keeps Trump’s name off Kennedy Center facade

What’s next: The same D.C. Circuit panel will hear Trump’s broader appeal of a May 29 order requiring the arts center to use only Kennedy’s name.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday refused to restore President Donald Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center while his legal challenge continues, leaving the Washington arts complex without his name on its facade. The three-judge D.C. Circuit panel said Trump and the center’s board had not shown irreparable harm and had offered no specific evidence that fundraising would suffer. The judges also noted the name had already been removed, so a stay would not prevent the claimed damage. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper had ruled May 29 that Congress named the center for President John F. Kennedy and the board could not formally rename it on its own. A status report on the center’s operations and programming is due later this month.
