Anthropic opens Singapore office, signs AI safety pact with government
What's new: The Claude maker said it is working to bring its frontier models “on soil” in Singapore, though no launch date was given.
Anthropic opened a Singapore office and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Digital Development and Information to work on AI safety, model evaluation and responsible adoption. The agreement also covers research on AI’s economic impact and use in the public sector. Co-founder Benjamin Mann signed the pact with MDDI Permanent Secretary Chng Kai Fong on the sidelines of Singapore International Cyber Week. Anthropic said the new site is its fifth in Asia-Pacific and listed at least 12 local job openings. The company also said it wants to bring its most advanced models into Singapore, but gave no timeline and said the deal does not grant the government priority access before commercial release.
