Papua farm budget rises to Rp3.2 trillion in 2026
Papua Tengah and Papua Pegunungan will each get 100,000 farm equipment packages, while Wanam gets 250 hectares of new rice fields.
The Agriculture Ministry has raised the budget for agricultural development in Papua to about Rp3.2 trillion in 2026 to expand programs across multiple regions. Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said the increase followed requests from residents and local governments after farm development in Wanam, Merauke Regency, South Papua, drew interest from other areas. Previously, the government had set aside Rp1.3 trillion specifically for South Papua, including farm machinery, irrigation, farm roads, warehouses, dryers and land development. Papua Tengah and Papua Pegunungan are each scheduled to receive 100,000 packages of agricultural equipment. In Wanam, the government has also approved the opening of about 250 hectares of new rice fields, work on which starts this year.
