Amazon jumps 10% after AWS growth hits 37%, capex rises to $220B

Amazon shares climbed more than 10% in extended trading after the company posted stronger-than-expected second-quarter results and raised its capital spending forecast for 2026. Revenue came in at $200.61 billion, above the $196.47 billion expected by analysts polled by LSEG, while earnings were $5.75 a share versus expectations of $1.82. Amazon Web Services revenue rose 37% from a year earlier to $42.2 billion, topping StreetAccount estimates and marking the unit's fastest growth since 2021. Advertising revenue reached $19.81 billion. CEO Andy Jassy told investors Amazon now expects 2026 capital expenditures to reach $220 billion, up from a prior $200 billion forecast, as the company races to add AI capacity.
