Alabama Republicans vote in Senate runoff to replace Tuberville

Why it matters: Barry Moore carries Donald Trump's backing into a test of his pull with GOP primary voters.

Alabama voters returned to the polls Tuesday for primary runoffs that will settle party nominees in the race for an open U.S. Senate seat and other contests ahead of the fall election. In the Republican Senate runoff, U.S. Rep. Barry Moore faced former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson for the nomination to succeed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor instead of seeking a second term. Moore led the first-round primary in May with about 39% of the vote, while Hudson took about 26% after narrowly beating Attorney General Steve Marshall for the second runoff spot. Democrats also held a Senate runoff between attorney Everett Wess and business owner Dakarai Larriett.
