AHY: Prabowo-Gibran two-term talk comes too early
AHY shifts attention to the economy, purchasing power, jobs, irrigation and local roads instead of the 2029 election race.
Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said talk of Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka serving two terms is still too early. After a meeting at the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Monday, June 22, 2026, AHY said politics is naturally heating up, but the 2029 election is still far off and the government should focus on domestic issues. He stressed priorities such as economic growth, household purchasing power, job creation, reducing poverty and narrowing inequality. AHY also pointed to projects that can quickly deliver benefits, including local roads and irrigation. The two-term talk surfaced after PSI central board chairman Bestari Barus said Joko Widodo had asked PSI and supporters to back the Prabowo-Gibran government, even for two terms, in a meeting in Solo on June 18.
