Agam Floods Force 450 Residents to Evacuate, Trap 60

Seventy homes in two jorong were inundated by about 70 centimeters after the Batang Tumayo River overflowed following heavy rain.

Flooding in Nagari Sungai Batang, Tanjung Raya District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, forced 450 residents to evacuate and briefly trapped 60 people on Saturday night. Agam BPBD recorded that the evacuees stayed in safer relatives' homes. The trapped residents were 20 households totaling 60 people; some made their own way to safety, while others were evacuated by a joint team from Agam BPBD, Basarnas, PMI, Polri, and TNI. In Jorong Kubu, 50 homes were flooded, while in Jorong Labuah 20 homes were affected, with water reaching about 70 centimeters. The flood followed heavy rain from Saturday afternoon into night that caused the Batang Tumayo River to overflow. No fatalities were reported, water has begun to recede, and some residents have returned home. BPBD said floods in the area often recur after the river shallowed following a flash flood in late November 2025.
