Afghanistan strikes militant bases in Pakistan, border tension rises

Kabul targeted sites in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a week after Pakistan strikes the Taliban said killed 13 people.

Afghan forces struck militant hideouts in Pakistan, the Taliban Defense Ministry said, triggering fresh tensions along the border between the two countries. The Thursday night attack targeted bases in Balochistan Province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, two Pakistani regions bordering Afghanistan. Kabul said the sites were used to plan and coordinate attacks against Afghanistan and claimed the main targets were hit. There were no details on casualties. Pakistan's military and information ministry did not immediately respond. The escalation came after Pakistan struck Afghan territory last week; the Taliban said at least 13 people, including 11 children, were killed and 14 others wounded. Islamabad earlier said the strikes killed 26 militants.
