8 Utah officers hospitalized after rescuing families from apartment fire

Eight St. George police officers were treated for smoke inhalation after rushing into a burning apartment complex and waking residents, including children, during a late-night fire rescue in southern Utah. Body-camera video from the June 7 blaze shows officers breaking down doors, pulling sleeping residents from bed and using a ladder to help a man escape from a second-floor unit. One officer reported that a roof collapsed on him near the end of the rescue. All eight officers were later released from the hospital. Local reports cited by Fox said the fire started in one unit, spread through a shared attic and ultimately burned or damaged 20 apartments.
