6 Indian nationals lose S$14,000 in fake Singapore work-pass scam

A man in Singapore is under investigation after six Indian nationals allegedly paid more than S$14,000 for work passes and jobs that did not exist. The victims, ages 21 to 49, believed they had secured five work permits and one S Pass, including jobs at J&T Express Singapore, after being shown official-looking documents purportedly from the Ministry of Manpower.
The alleged scam ran from March 6 to June 9, when the men and their families sent money through PayNow and ATM deposits. Vanjur Maideen Syedabthahir said the suspect, Abdul Raheem Lailathul Sultanil Arebeen, claimed to be a Singaporean film producer and later sent digital approval documents by WhatsApp. Vanjur grew suspicious after checking the Foreign Identification Numbers on MOM's portal and finding they did not exist.
