5.3-Hectare Wildfire Hits Banjar, Flames Remain in Pesayangan
New: the hot spot in Simpang Lima has been fully extinguished, while firefighting remains focused on Pesayangan Village.
A forest and land fire has burned about 5.3 hectares of open area in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, since Saturday (20/6). BNPB said the fire occurred in two locations: 2 hectares in Simpang Lima Village, Cintapuri Darussalam District, and 3.3 hectares in Pesayangan Village, Martapura District. BPBD Kabupaten Banjar and a joint team have been deployed to extinguish the flames and contain the fire area. Abdul Muhari, head of BNPB’s Center for Data, Information and Disaster Communications, said the fire in Simpang Lima has been fully extinguished, while the blaze in Pesayangan is still being handled. As the dry season continues, BNPB has called for stronger ground patrols and emergency monitoring, and for land clearing by burning to be avoided.
