Tan suits return at Obama library opening in Chicago nod

What's new: David Letterman, Stephen Colbert and Martin Nesbitt wore khaki suits, reviving the 2014 uproar over Barack Obama's outfit.

Several guests at the June 18 opening of Barack Obama’s presidential library in Chicago arrived in tan suits, turning a onetime White House controversy into an inside joke. David Letterman, Stephen Colbert and Obama Foundation board chair Martin Nesbitt all wore khaki suits that echoed the outfit Obama wore at an August 2014 news conference on the US response to the Islamic State group. That suit drew days of criticism from Republicans and conservative media, who cast it as too casual for a president. At the library event, Nesbitt leaned into the reference during his remarks, while Obama, hearing the tribute, said he loved the tan suit.
