3 killed in strikes on Saudi airport and Aramco Shaybah field

Why it matters: The attacks pushed Washington to order non-emergency US staff and families out of Saudi Arabia.

Three people were killed and eight others were injured in attacks Wednesday on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Aramco’s Shaybah oil field in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, as fighting tied to the Yemen war escalated. Saudi authorities said two people died in the airport attack and another two were killed earlier by debris from an intercepted drone aimed at a processing facility at Shaybah, though one report put the combined death toll at three. Saudi officials said Shaybah operations were unaffected and that multiple other drones were intercepted later in the day. The Houthis did not immediately claim responsibility. The US then ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia.
