3 Iran missiles breach US defenses at Jordan base
The attack left about 50,000 U.S. troops in the Middle East more exposed, with nearly 100 people reported injured.
Three Iran missiles reportedly penetrated the United States air defense system in an attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan last week, exposing the fragility of protection for U.S. forces in the Middle East. The Wall Street Journal, citing U.S. officials, reported that one strike hit a prefabricated barracks housing American military personnel. U.S. Central Command, or CENTCOM, said on 18 July that two U.S. service members were killed and another was missing in the attack. According to U.S. officials, the strike on Muwaffaq Salti was one of three missile attacks within 24 hours. CBS News, citing the Pentagon, also reported that nearly 100 U.S. service members were injured in a series of Iran attacks on American bases in the region.
