3,550 joint personnel clear 11 rivers in Jabodetabek

The effort focuses on trash and sediment to keep water flowing and reduce flood risks during El Nino.

A total of 3,550 joint personnel from TNI-Polri, the DKI Jakarta provincial government, communities, volunteers and residents carried out a cleanup of rivers at 11 points across Jabodetabek on Saturday (15/8). The main activity took place at Kali Angke, in the Kalijodo area, Pejagalan, Penjaringan district, North Jakarta, ahead of the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's independence. Pangdam Jaya Lt. Gen. Deddy Suryadi, Metro Jaya Police Chief Insp. Gen. Asep Edi Suheri and DKI Jakarta Regional Secretary Uus Kuswanto inspected the site. In addition to removing trash and sediment, participants planted trees and distributed aid to residents. Other sites were spread across Jakarta, Kepulauan Seribu, Tangerang, Tangerang Regency, Depok and Bekasi. Pangdam Jaya said the activity would be carried out regularly, not only during independence celebrations.
