2 Singapore residents clear quarantine after hantavirus cruise scare
Why it matters: The cases were tied to the MV Hondius outbreak, which the WHO linked to 13 infections and three deaths as of May 27.
Two Singapore residents linked to the MV Hondius hantavirus outbreak have completed quarantine and tested negative, Singapore's Communicable Diseases Agency said June 7. The men, ages 67 and 65, were on the expedition ship after it left Ushuaia in Argentina on April 1 and later shared an April 25 flight from St Helena to Johannesburg with a confirmed case who later died in South Africa. Both returned to Singapore in early May and were isolated at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. CDA said they were well and tested negative for hantavirus, including the Andes virus, before release on June 6. The World Health Organization had recorded 13 confirmed cases tied to the outbreak, including three deaths, as of May 27.
