2 helicopters collide at Everest base camp, 1 tourist dies
The dead was an Indian national, while a New Zealand tourist was injured and evacuated to a hospital.
Two helicopters collided while trying to land in the Everest base camp area in Solukhumbu District, Nepal, on Tuesday (3/11), killing one tourist from India and injuring one tourist from New Zealand. District official Kaman Singh Thapa Magar said the injured person had been rescued and taken to hospital. Local police said the collision occurred as both helicopters approached the snowy landing area. The aircraft were operated by two private companies, Fishtail Air and Dynasty Air. Fishtail Air said its helicopter was carrying passengers evacuated from the Everest region, while the Dynasty Air helicopter was transporting cargo. The incident took place during the peak trekking season, when helicopters routinely carry climbers, tourists and supplies in the Everest area.
