2 GOP senators waver, putting Todd Blanche AG bid at risk

What's next: If John Cornyn or Thom Tillis votes no in committee, Blanche's nomination could stall before reaching the full Senate.

Two Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee said Thursday they have not decided whether to back acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, raising the risk that President Donald Trump's nominee could be blocked in committee. Sen. John Cornyn of Texas said he was still weighing Blanche after questions over a now-defunct $1.8 billion Justice Department fund. Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina said he wants Blanche to meet with victims of Jeffrey Epstein before he is willing to vote the nomination out of committee. Republicans hold an 11-10 edge on the panel after the death of Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Democrats are expected to oppose Blanche, a former lawyer for Trump who now serves as acting attorney general.
