A 16-year-old rookie lifeguard rescued a 10-year-old boy who was swept offshore at Seabright State Beach in Santa Cruz, California, in a dramatic save captured on bystander video. Ryder Williams ran from his post, entered heavy surf and held onto the child as waves knocked them under repeatedly, according to his statement released by California State Parks. Lifeguard Aaron Bohnen and several beachgoers also helped bring the boy to shore. Williams said the child was assessed on the beach and returned safely to his family. California State Parks said the rescue was one of 34 in the Santa Cruz district over the weekend.
