14 charged in Penn State cocaine ring tied to 2 frat houses

What's new: prosecutors say pledges were made to cut and bag cocaine, and the alleged leader was jailed without bail.

Pennsylvania prosecutors charged 14 people in an alleged cocaine trafficking ring centered on Penn State and two off-campus fraternity houses. The attorney general's office said 13 of those charged were current or former students, while a 14th defendant, the father of one student, faces counts tied to concealing evidence. Investigators say the operation ran in 2023 and 2024, with bulk cocaine brought from Philadelphia and New York, then cut and packaged at the Sigma Chi and Delta Upsilon houses and distributed through students. Agostino Abbatiello, accused of leading the ring, surrendered Tuesday after missing a scheduled arraignment and was ordered held without bail. Penn State placed Delta Upsilon on interim suspension; Sigma Chi separately suspended its local chapter's operations.
