12 killed after Polish bus overturns on Hungary's M3 motorway

A Polish tourist bus crashed into a ditch and overturned on Hungary's M3 motorway early Sunday, killing 12 people and injuring dozens, Hungarian authorities said. The bus was traveling toward Nyiregyhaza when it veered off a straight stretch of road near Mezokeresztes at about 1 a.m. Police said preliminary information indicates the driver may have fallen asleep and that the driver was taken into custody. State news agency MTI reported that 57 passengers and two drivers were on board. Hungary's ambulance service said one person suffered life-threatening injuries, nine were seriously hurt and 37 had minor injuries. Firefighters and cranes worked to free people trapped under the vehicle.
