10-year-old boy hurt after Food Junction sign collapses in mall
What's next: Singapore's building authority ordered the owner to hire an engineer to inspect the signage and certify the area safe.
A 10-year-old boy was taken to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital after a signboard collapsed at the entrance to a Food Junction outlet in Rivervale Mall in Sengkang on June 20. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at about 10:30 a.m. Building and Construction Authority engineers later found the mall structurally sound, but said the building owner must appoint a professional engineer to investigate the failure, assess the remaining signage and supporting system, and recommend repairs before the affected area reopens. Food Junction said the injured customer has since gone home after medical assessment and that operations at the food court have resumed.
