1 killed, 4 hurt in drive-by shooting near Paris; suspect held
What's new: France's anti-terror prosecutor took over as investigators examine possible terrorist, racist or religious motives.
A gunman fired from a car in Trappes, southwest of Paris, on Friday, killing one person and wounding four others, including a 12-year-old girl, before police arrested the suspect. Mayor Ali Rabeh told BFMTV the shooter appeared to fire at random while driving between Trappes and nearby La Verriere and seemed intent on causing a massacre. French authorities said the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office had taken charge of the case. Investigators are examining whether the attack was terrorism or was driven by racial or religious hatred. Media reports said the suspect, 39, was later detained in nearby Coignieres.
