1.3 Tons of Ketamine from MV King Sun Destroyed in Batam

The Rp2.76 trillion narcotics haul was seized from a Tanzania-flagged vessel after a three-month cross-border intelligence operation.

A joint team destroyed 1.3 tons of ketamine at Mako Kodaeral IV Batam, Riau Islands, on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2026, after the narcotics were seized from the cargo ship MV King Sun in the North Berakit waters off Bintan on Aug. 6. Bea Cukai, BNN, TNI AL, BIN, and Bareskrim Polri said the evidence was worth Rp2.76 trillion. Eight foreign crew members were detained for further questioning. The case stemmed from intelligence received from Thai authorities in mid-May 2026, then expanded through monitoring of the vessel’s movements until early August. When the ship was stopped, officers found 1,300 packs of ketamine hidden in a compartment near the bridge, packed inside 65 Chinese tea packages containing 20 packets each.
