Zverev wins 1st Grand Slam title with 5-set French Open victory
What’s new: The German beat Flavio Cobolli in five sets for his 25th career title after losing his first three major finals.
Alexander Zverev won his first Grand Slam title on Sunday, beating Italy’s Flavio Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-1 in the French Open final at Roland Garros in Paris. The victory came in Zverev’s fourth major final and delivered the 25th title of his career. The third-ranked German had previously lost in the 2020 U.S. Open final, the 2024 French Open final and the 2025 Australian Open final. Cobolli, seeded 14th, was playing in his first Slam final after never advancing past the quarterfinals before this tournament. Zverev capitalized on a draw without Jannik Sinner or Carlos Alcaraz in the final and became a Grand Slam champion after years of near-misses.
