Yusril says proposal to redefine corruption is not ready

The National Economic Council is set to meet on Monday, October 26, to detail the UNCAC-linked proposal.

Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the proposal to change the definition of corruption is not yet mature and still needs more study. According to Yusril, input from the National Economic Council so far remains at the level of broad ideas and outlines, without details on the definition to be aligned with the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), both in substantive and procedural law. He is scheduled to meet DEN on Monday, October 26, to hear a more detailed explanation or offer views as a former Minister of Justice. Yusril said any changes to anti-corruption rules must be reviewed carefully, with an understanding of the history of amendments to the Tipikor Law, the establishment of KPK, and Indonesia's ratification of UNCAC through Law No. 7 of 2006.
