Yusril orders immigration staff to open data to KPK
The case is alleged to involve eight suspects, with KPK estimating extortion from foreign residence permits at Rp145,5 miliar.
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra ordered all immigration staff to cooperate with KPK and open all data in the investigation into alleged corruption in immigration services. He said he had received many public complaints about irregularities, including illegal levies in various immigration services, and viewed the case exposed by KPK as an opportunity for reform. The case is linked to alleged extortion of foreign nationals' residence permits and gratuities at the Directorate General of Immigration. KPK has processed eight suspects, including former Deputy Minister of Immigration and Corrections for 2024-2026 Silmy Karim, acting Director General of Immigration for 2024-2025 Saffar Muhammad Godam, Jaya Saputra, and Ronald Arman Abdullah. According to KPK, the alleged proceeds from the extortion amounted to at least Rp145,5 miliar over 2022-2026.
