'Yemen Spider-Man' dies after 120-meter volcanic fall
New: Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar's body was found 30 meters below the water surface after a roughly 4-hour recovery operation.
Al-Qaqa Ibn Antar, 30, known on social media as the “Yemen Spider-Man,” died after falling while climbing a steep cliff at the Bendungan Hardah volcanic crater in Dhale province, Yemen, on 12 June. Video circulating online showed him climbing an almost vertical rock face without ropes, a safety harness or other protective gear before losing his grip and falling into the 120-meter-deep crater. Yemen Civil Defense authorities then sent a rescue team, including divers and water specialists. His body was found the next day at a depth of 30 meters below the water surface. The search operation lasted about four to four and a half hours and was described as difficult and dangerous because of the steep cliffs, remote location and hot sulfur lake at the bottom of the crater.
