Yan Mandenas urges SMA 1 Mimika students to study outside Papua
He also backs English classes for grades X-XI and is pushing a Papua scholarship partnership with international institutions.
DPR RI Commission XIII member Yan Permenas Mandenas urged students at SMA Negeri 1 Mimika, in Timika, Papua Tengah, to pursue higher education outside the region after graduation. During a Pancasila virtue movement volunteer outreach event held by Badan Pembinaan Ideologi Pancasila (BPIP) on Saturday, he said education is important for regional progress and asked students to prepare themselves to compete in college and the job market. Mandenas also stressed the importance of English skills as preparation for studying or working abroad. He said he is pushing a scholarship partnership between the Government of Papua and international institutions, with a target of at least one participant from Papua going every year. According to him, students in grades X and XI need to be prepared through language classes so they can later return to their region as problem solvers.
