WNI detained in Johor after 2 children fall from 12th floor

One child died at the scene, another was badly injured, and Malaysian police are probing possible child neglect.

Malaysian police detained a 37-year-old WNI identified as R after two of his children fell from the 12th floor of an apartment in the Tampoi area of Johor Bahru on June 7 at about 08:27 local time. One child died at the scene, while the other suffered serious injuries and was treated at Hospital Sultanah Aminah. KJRI Johor Bahru said both victims were R's biological children with a Malaysian citizen. Johor Bahru Utara police detained R that same day and are investigating the case under Seksyen 31(1)(a) Akta Kanak-Kanak 2001. Police said R had no criminal record and tested negative for narcotics in a urine test. The motive and exact cause of the incident are still under investigation. KJRI has sought consular access to ensure the WNI's legal rights are protected.
