WhatsApp names Cred founder Kunal Shah to replace Will Cathcart
What's new: Meta also took a minority stake in Cred, which Shah said would not give the company access to member data.
WhatsApp is changing leadership after nearly seven years under Will Cathcart, with Cred founder Kunal Shah set to take over the messaging app inside Meta. Cathcart said Monday that WhatsApp was in its strongest position and that it was the right time to step back, though he will remain in a leadership role at Meta. The move puts an Indian fintech entrepreneur in charge as Meta pushes deeper into WhatsApp's huge user base in India and seeks more revenue from ads, subscriptions and AI tools. Shah said he will remain a shareholder in Bengaluru-based Cred. He also said Meta will become a minority investor in the company without access to member data.
