Deputy coordinating minister deems PBB role in Palestine conflict ineffective

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk Freidrich Paulus said the role of the United Nations in advancing a settlement to the Palestine conflict has not been effective. Speaking at the 6th plenary session of the 8th Kongres Umat Islam Indonesia at Hotel Bidakara in South Jakarta on Saturday (25/7/2026), he said the U.N. has also failed to produce any significant resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war and the Middle East conflict involving Israel, Palestina, Iran, and neighboring countries. Lodewijk said Indonesia will continue its free and active foreign policy, but will contribute through peacekeeping missions rather than peacemaking that involves combat operations. He also said Indonesia has joined the Board of Peace forum and has brought the Palestine issue into one of the 20 discussion points.
